How to direct a voiceover session from anywhere.

Chances are, you’re still working from home and are likely to be for some time yet.

But you still need to do your job. You’re still making tv commercials and corporate videos, and videos for client web sites. Radio ads still need to be crafted. Tone of voice and clear direction matter more than ever.

You still need to book a voiceover.

It’s easy…

Fortunately, the one thing this year has highlighted, is that it’s surprisingly easy to have a first class experience and professional result when working with a voiceover remotely.

High-quality connection

For many of us voiceovers, working from home has been the norm for many years and a professional home studio comes as standard.

Where we have needed to adapt, is the way in which we can connect with you. Requests for ISDN have fallen away, to be replaced with IP-based solutions like Source Connect Now and CleanFeed, and conferencing tools like Zoom and Skype.

And yes, we can self-record and send, and that works well. But a real-time connection can avoid misunderstandings and get straight to what you need. It’s great for fast turnarounds, tricky timings or pernickety clients.

Direct a voiceover session from anywhere

The good news for you as a producer or director is that you can now easily direct a voiceover session from anywhere using your laptop or mobile phone. And personally, I don’t have a camera in my booth, so neither of us ever need know if it’s a pyjama day!

If you’ve not used these tools before, just let me know, and we can work through the best solution for you. They’re all easy to set up, and often only require you to use Chrome and then click a personalised link.

Or, you can simply call me on the phone, sometimes old school is the way to go.

Professional quality audio

And then after the session, I’ll send you the high quality audio file to work on, or you can ask me to create a finished file, ready for you to use.

If you’re set up with a studio yourself, we can connect via Source Connect Standard for professional real-time results. Or ISDN until the end of October, which is when I finally say goodbye to the technology that’s stood me in such good stead for the last 20 years. I may shed a tear.
