Automotive voice over – introducing the Range Rover Velar

Automotive voice over is a dream come true for me.  I love cars. As a child, I was obsessed with learning the names of every marque on the road, and endlessly quizzed my Dad about all the different road signs and highway rules. I counted down the years, months and days until I could learn to drive myself.

I was thrilled when my voice was part of the extraordinary launch of the Jaguar F-Pace (if you’ve not seen it, click the link for a Record Breaking spectacle), and an incredible Land Rover event on board the USS Intrepid in New York. As you might imagine, I was extremely excited to be asked to lend my voice to the Range Rover Velar launch.

My Voice of God role at these launches is to provide the introductions and announcements that guide the audience, but they are by no means the focus and are essentially unobtrusive, yet essential, to the smooth running of the event.

I was told my introduction would follow a 23 piece orchestra. The venue, The Design Centre in London, has four floors and an atrium, so I clearly needed to consider how it would sound in that space. I opted for rich and smooth, with a slower delivery for the announcement to be heard clearly, and a few options for the producers to ensure it would be in keeping with the preceding music.

It wasn’t until I watched the live stream along with tens of thousands of others that I heard the incredible narration from Damien Lewis. You can see and hear it in the video below. The orchestra follows from that, and then much to my surprise, you’ll hear me introduce Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s Chief Design Officer.

An honour to be involved with such a thoroughly British, star-studded event.
